What is an Art Facilitator?
art n
the creation of beautiful or thought-provoking works, for example, in painting, music, or writing
fa·cil·i·ta·tor n
somebody who aids or assists in a process, especially by encouraging people to find their own solutions to problems or tasks
Art facilitator n
Somebody who aids others in the creative process by encouraging them to access their innate creative abilities and create unique and personal art.
An art facilitator is different from an art teacher. Art teachers teach creative or artistic skills. For example teaching how to write is different from writing a poem. Different skills and different processes are required.
In order to be creative one has to be able to access one’s source of creativity; our imagination. We all are creative beings but often lack the awareness or confidence to engage in creative processes. In western society we, more often than not, feel inhibited in our creative abilities. This can be attributed to art education systems that require conformity for assessment purposes. Conformity has nothing to do with creativity, the ability to use the imagination to develop new and original ideas or things.
